Dr. Kavita Iyengar

Dr. Iyengar is one of the newest additions to our team of physicians at Lemak Health— a center of excellence in orthopedic surgery with expertise in all areas of orthopedics and primary care sports medicine. Dr. Iyengar specializes in foot, ankle, and general orthopedic surgery.

She completed her foot and ankle fellowship at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2012. Before attending UAB, she completed her residency at Ohio State University. During her residency program, she was honored with the Mallory Coleman Research Day Senior research project award.

Dr. Iyengar obtained her medical degree from Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. At Boonshoft, she was appointed to the academic committee by the Dean of Student Affairs. She was also the school delegate at the American College of Physician research day and a tutor to anatomy and biochemistry students.

Prior to graduating medical school, she attended Cleveland State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time there, she was a Cleveland State University Presidential Scholar, a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and a Scholar Athlete. She was also a Division 1 Intercollegiate Softball Player and varsity letter winner.

Aside from her remarkable academic accomplishments, Dr. Iyengar is committed to community involvement and volunteer work. She is dedicated to the Hoover community and is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. Philanthropic work is close to her heart. She has organized a medical mission trip to villages of Belize. She has helped fundraise for the local Reach Out Clinics. She has helped organize an anti-smoking campaign for the March of Dimes and has also helped raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dr. Iyengar is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), American Medical Association (AMA), and American College of Surgeons.
