Dr. Robert E. Agee
Dr. Robert Agee is Board Certified by the American Academy of Family Practice and specializes in primary care sports medicine. Dr. Agee completed a Sports Medicine fellowship in Birmingham at the American Sports Medicine Institute, which was co-founded by sports medicine pioneer, Dr. Lawrence Lemak. He has a decade of training and experience caring for athletes and performers around the world, and he serves as the first line of primary care at our Birmingham location.
Dr. Agee attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. A California native, raised on the Presidio of San Francisco, returned to California to train in family practice at the UCSF-Fresno medical residency program. Prior to coming to Birmingham, he was the Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine at Kaiser Permanente in California, one of the largest hospital systems in the United States. During that time, Dr. Agee was also the team physician for The University of California at Berkeley where he covered various intercollegiate team sports, and was most notable as the head team physician for the National Champion Cal Rugby Team.
In addition to his collegiate athletic post, Dr. Agee served nine years as a medical consultant to the NFL-Europe league, providing sideline coverage and medical care for professional football players overseas. Many celebrities and entertainers who require immediate medical attention have called on Dr. Agee.
Dr. Agee has proudly held the post as the volunteer Medical Director for the San Francisco – Redwood Empire Pop Warner football district. He provided care to hundreds of urban youth athletes in the inner cities of California. Presently, he can be found on the sidelines of middle and high schools, collegiate level games, and events throughout Alabama. He is the current head team physician for Alabama State University athletics and supports Miles University in its athletic care. Dr. Agee has also handled a wide range of sporting events from golden gloves boxing to gymnastics.
Dr. Agee is recognized as one of the leading resources for primary care sports medicine having spoken at national and international conferences and meetings. He has been published in scientific journals and quoted in popular press including Ebony magazine, Fox News and ESPN Sports Radio. He has also spoke at national and internal conferences and meetings, lending his knowledge and expertise to people across the world.
His research interests center around providing a quality spectrum of care for all athletes through health disparities research and programs. Dr. Agee also performs the Tenex Health TX procedure to help treat the chronic tendon pain of his patients and help them recover in a shorter period of time.
